About back to Basics Radio
Back to basics radio is run as a club where its members meet every month to talk about radio related topics and to plan trips away eg. a weekend in Amsterdam for the radio day that is held by the Dutch every year where they talk about off shore radio and show films about these radio stations they also invite guests among the guests they have are big names to off shore radio enthusiasts, names like Johnny Walker, Dave Cash, Peter Phillips, Peter Chicargo and many many more.

The radio day this year is on November 14th & it's all about Lazer which broadcast from the north sea in the 80's on 558 meters MW & the ship was the MV Communicator, there will be disc jockys & engineersat the event who were on the ship talking about the station.

There is also the radio day in france that is held annualy, this is not as big as the Dutch event but is still good and a good excuse for a weekend away.

Most of our destinations abroad are reached by ship, my favourite was the trip to Bilbao North Spain on the ship The Pride of Bilbao, it took three days for the ship to get there and back, the entertainment on the ship was fantastic with plenty to do on board, the whole ship was very clean the food was good and not to expensive, it was good to go on deck as well with a pint and watch the whales and dolphins diving out of the water something I have never seen before, the price you pay for what you get is unbelievable, good value for money a trip thourghly recomended.

Back to basic radio members also have day trips, in the past we have visited the only serviving radio ship the Ross Revenge home of radio Caroline & the nuclear bunker deep under ground on the out skirts of London.

We was lucky to have the opportunity to look around the Radio Ship Communicator home of Laser 558 when she was moored at Lowerstoft before she was taken to the Orkney Islands where she was cut up for scrap.

 Radio Starship
We also have our very own internet radio station Radio Starship which is not on as regular as it could be, the reason for this is we only have five presenters at present all have full time employment but try there best to put as much time in to the station as thay can, the DPS can play continuous music but it is like listning to a juke box after a while, the station should be more regular soon.

The station comes from a fully equiped studio & we use CD, Mini Disc, Tape, Computer Digital Play Out System & good old Turn Tables for playing vinyl, unlike most stations we have a record library totaling more than ten thousend songs.
more details of these and other projects we are planning, have been or are currently envolved in can be found on this website.

Like A Drink
With beer festivals getting more & more populer and the fact that our members are partial to a glass or two of real ale we make time to go to avents that are in or around Essex.

Some of the festivals we have been to in the past include Chapple, Colchester, Clacton, Harwich and Chelmsford, these are all run by CAMRA a club that campains for real ale.
